Boxer Club of Canada
Boxer Breed Standard
The Boxer is a medium-sized, athletic working dog developed in Germany, known for its strength, intelligence, and unmistakable personality. Combining power with elegance, the Boxer is as capable in the field as it is charming in the home.
Confident, alert, and naturally protective, the Boxer is a devoted companion with a strong sense of loyalty to its people. While always ready to take its role as guardian seriously, the breed is equally known for its affectionate nature and deep love of family—especially children, with whom it is famously patient and gentle.
The Boxer’s short, smooth coat comes in fawn or brindle, often accented with white markings and a distinctive black mask. Its balanced, muscular build and purposeful movement reflect the breed’s working heritage and athletic ability.
And then there’s the personality.
Boxers are spirited, playful, and just a little bit ridiculous—in the best possible way. Known for their “forever puppy” energy and expressive antics, they bring humor and heart into everyday life. Behind the clowning, however, is a highly intelligent dog that thrives on engagement, structure, and connection.
In short: a serious dog… who doesn’t always take life too seriously.
